Lakes 1 and 4 Renovation Update

The contractor hired to perform the work on Lakes 1 and 4 is scheduled to return to Texana Plantation on Monday, April 7th.

Lake 1

The contractor stockpiled clay prior to leaving the project due to the wet conditions of the lake so the contractor can begin work as soon as his equipment arrives and will not need to wait for the trucking companies to bring the clay to the site.  More clay will need to be brought in to complete the lining of the lake with good clay.  Depending on weather and the availability of trucks it will take 5-6 weeks of work to complete the project.   Once the work on Lake 1 is complete it will take 8-10 weeks to fill the lake based on the outputs of the water wells.  The fountains will then be installed and the lake will be restocked with fish.

Lake 4

The first project on Lake 4 will be the removal of an abandoned pipeline discovered by the contractor while draining the lake.  The WCID worked with the HOA to determine the ownership of the pipeline with the HOA taking the lead.   The HOA was not able to find any company that would accept responsibility for the pipeline leaving the final disposition with the WCID and the HOA.  Work was stopped on the lake while the investigation was going on in the interest of safety since there were no records available regarding the pipeline.  A contractor with experience in testing pipelines for pressure and hazardous materials was hired and the pipeline was tapped to determine its status.  Fortunately, the pipeline did not have any pressure and it contains water.  The pipeline will be cut outside the boundaries of the lake and removed from the lake bed.  The remaining pipe will be sealed and covered with soil.

The work to remove the existing lake bottom on Lake 4 will depend on the availability of personnel from the contractor.  Removal of the lake sediment could be done simultaneously with Lake 1 work or after Lake 1 is complete.  Once work commences on Lake 4 it will take 9-10 weeks to complete the work.  Once work is complete it will take 5-7 weeks to fill the lake at which time the fountain will be installed and the lake will be restocked with fish.
